THE 12 UNIVERSAL LAWS - HOW TO APPLY THEM

What are the 12 universal laws, and where do they come from?

The 12 universal laws are thought to be intrinsic, unchanging laws of our universe that ancient cultures have always intuitively known.

The laws are often associated with Ho'oponopono, a meditation for freedom originating in ancient Hawaiian culture. Some of the laws, however, are also attributed to hermetic philosophy going back to ancient Egypt.

The list of ancient laws has withstood the test of time as both Kaiser, Kumar, and plenty of others around the world still work with it today. "All of the laws are about mastering your life with love and joy," Kaiser explains.

Here's an introduction to the themes and underpinnings of each, and how to apply them to your life today:


1. Law of Divine Oneness

The first and most foundational law of the universe is the Law of Divine Oneness, which highlights the interconnectedness of all things. It says that beyond our senses, every thought, action, and event is in some way connected to anything and everything else.

How to apply it:

Kaiser notes this one can come off a bit heady, but applying it in real life entails being compassionate with others, and recognizing that we are all one.

She recommends working this law by asking questions like, "How can I show more compassion and acceptance toward those I don't understand?" or "What would love do?”

2. Law of Vibration:

At a microscopic level, everything is in constant motion, vibrating at a specific frequency. This applies to matter but also one's personal frequency as well. This law says that our vibrational frequency can inform our lived experience.

For example, "You may be able to receive money but perhaps you can't hold on to it," Kumar notes, "because vibrationally, you could be operating on a lower level."

How to apply it:

If you feel the need to elevate your frequency (good vibes, anyone?), there are lots of great practices to do so, including yogasound bathing, and chakra work.

3. Law of Correspondence

This law states that patterns repeat throughout the universe, and on a personal level, our reality is a mirror of what's happening inside us at that moment. Think "As above, so below. As within, so without."

How to apply it:

Kaiser's mantra for this law? It's happening for you, not to you. "If our life is chaotic and fearful," she says, "it's because there is chaos and fear within. If our life seems calm and grounded, it is because we feel peace within."

In any troubling situation, she suggests asking what the situation can show you about yourself, and what requires healing within.

4. Law of Attraction:

Undoubtedly the most talked about universal law, the law of attraction is often used for manifestation. It says that like attracts like, and you get what you focus on. Not only that, but you have to believe what you're seeking is possible to obtain.

It is similar to the law of vibration in this way; it's important to learn how to vibrate at a level that attracts what you're seeking.

How to apply it:

If you want love but do not give love, for example, you're sending the universe a message about your priorities. If you repeat an affirmation but don't believe what you're saying, it's useless. "When we focus on what we want versus what we don't want, it will show up in our life," says Kaiser.

5. Law of Inspired Action

Closely related to the law of attraction, the law of inspired action is all about taking those real, actionable steps to invite what we want into our lives. Often the inspiration comes from within. "Inspired action is that gentle, internal nudge," Kumar says. "It's not always a plan of action."

How to apply it:

Practicing this law is all about slowing down, getting quiet, and creating space for internal guidance. When we let go of our need to arrange and control how things will work out and are instead open to all possibilities, it makes room for new ways of achieving the goals that we might not have considered otherwise.

6. Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy

This law states that on an energetic level, everything in the universe is constantly evolving or fluctuating. Every action is preceded by a thought, with thoughts themselves having the power to eventually manifest in our physical reality.

Ever been around a negative person and felt your own positivity depleting? That's one example—but it can also work the other way around: Higher frequencies transmute lower ones when applied with intention.

How to apply it:

Knowing this, we can actively seek to uplift negative energy around us by maintaining positive thoughts and actions.

7. Law of Cause and Effect

Relatively straightforward, this law highlights the direct relation between actions and events. What's important to note here, according to Kumar, is we often can't see the effects right away, but they will come back around.

How to apply it:

Trust that every action will have a reaction—good or bad. "What you put out there may not come back to you at that moment, but that vibration, that energy you put out there, has a ripple effect," says Kumar. "If you're coming from a place of anger or resentment, if you put that energy out there, you'll eventually be affected as a result."

8. Law of Compensation

The law of compensation relates closely to the law of attraction and the law of correspondence. "You reap what you sow" is the main takeaway, with the law stating your efforts will always come back to you positively. If you are seeking something, you must contribute in some way toward your goal.

How to apply it:

To work with this law in a manner that attracts (or compensates for) love and support, for example, Kaiser suggests asking yourself, "Where am I being called to serve and support others today?" 

9. Law of Relativity:

This law suggests that we are inclined to compare things in our world, but in reality, everything is neutral. Relativism exists in all things, and in the end, meaning comes down to our perspective and perception.

How to apply it:

Applying this law can help us understand the tougher parts of our lives with greater compassion. For example, if we're feeling ungrateful for our living situation, it could be because we're comparing our arrangements with someone else's.

Instead, we'd be better off appreciating what we have without needing to compare it to something else.

10. Law of Polarity

This law says that everything in life has an opposite; good and evil, love and fear, warmth and cold. The key is understanding these are all two sides of the same coin.

How to apply it:

Kaiser works with this law through the mantra All contrast brings more clarity. If you're facing a difficult situation like a breakup or a health challenge, for example, tune into what the opposite looks like, which can reveal a new perspective or lesson.

11. Law of Rhythm

Cycles are a natural part of the universe. Physically, you can think about the seasons on Earth. In our own lives, we can remember that integration is just as important as growth. Kumar notes, "We expect ourselves to be one way all the time, whether we're thinking about our health or even productivity," but this is not sustainable.

How to apply it:

Take note of your inner rhythms and try to work with them instead of fighting them. Feeling run down? Maybe it's better to give yourself some rest instead of powering through.

12. Law of Gender:

And lastly, the law of gender has to do with the masculine and feminine energy that exists in all things. Kaiser notes that much of our society has historically operated from a masculine, "hustle and do" mentality, which doesn't allow for much room to just be.

How to apply it:

Achieve your own balance between the divine masculine and divine feminine energies in order to live more authentically.

The bottom line:

And there you have it: the 12 universal laws. Before you get too overwhelmed, integrating them into your life is more about understanding and conceptualizing them in a way that makes sense to you. Kumar notes it doesn't have to be so analytical; "Understand the concept and keep it on the back burner in your mind," she says, to learn how to work with them in day-to-day scenarios.

Choosing the right job for you according to your work values 

You spend 40 hours (maybe more) at your job every week.

But have you ever stopped to think about your personal work values? Employee and employer work values, not only determine work culture but also your optimal career path.

Work takes up a lot of space in your life as an employee. This means that the culture you find at your place of work impacts your morale, productivity, and happiness.

Spending all day ingrained in a culture that doesn’t resemble you and your core values can drain your energy and enthusiasm for your job. Even if the perks of the job are amazing, cultural issues can make those perks lose their shine.

But it goes deeper than culture: whether or not you share the same core values as your employer matters. 

So, before you ask for that promotion or accept your next job offer, you need to be clear on the types of work values that are most important to you.


What are work values?

Work values are beliefs or principles relating to your career or place of work. They describe what you believe matters regarding your career.

For instance, some people believe that getting a sense of achievement through their work is a core priority in their career. For others, a healthy work-life balance trumps anything else.

Employees typically have their own set of core values, but so will organizations. For example, some companies value transparency, while others will see value in teamwork and communication.

Your workplace values say a lot about who you are and what matters to you. This is not just for your career, but in your overall personality, too.

Are work values important?

Work values matter whether you are an employee or an employer. 

When your work aligns with your values, it can help you find meaning in what you do daily at your job. Your career can have a deeper meaning than just putting money in your bank account. 

Upholding workplace values can also help an employee further their career. 

In a study performed on meaning and purpose at work and found that on average, employees that place a higher value on meaningful work occupy more senior and skilled positions. They also stay longer at a single company.

Raises and promotions are also more common for people who value their work. This makes sense. It is easier to stay motivated and perform at a higher level when you find meaning in what you do.

Additionally, employees whose value systems align strongly with company leadership report higher job satisfaction than employees who feel misaligned.

The opposite is also true. BetterUp’s study on meaning and purpose at work found that in toxic workplaces, the rate of meaningful work for employees falls by 24% when compared to workplaces with low toxicity.

So, yes: having work values and finding a career that allows you to uphold these values contributes positively to your overall career goals. But, what about employers?

Because employees want to find meaning in their work, employers need to uphold work values that match the type of talent they want to attract. 

But that’s not all. Work values determine the culture of your workplace, and a healthy culture helps you and your colleagues adapt to change. 

For example, 70% of transformations in the workplace fail, and 70% of those failures are linked to cultural issues.

Here's what else you can expect from identifying your own work values.

Get satisfaction from your career

On average, employees say their work is half as meaningful as it could be. Achieving your work values can help you get satisfaction from your work since you'll know what you want from your career. 

By knowing what you want, you’ll be able to plan a career path that aligns with your values. If you value leadership, for instance, your career path should reflect it by including leadership positions. 

However, you need to identify what those values are to achieve them in the first place.

Find a company with a good fit for your values 

Not all businesses uphold the same values. The definition of meaningful work could be something completely different from one company to another.

Knowing your values will help you find companies that have the same values as you do. In turn, this can help you apply for the right job opportunities and avoid the ones that don’t fit with your values.

When you find a job within a company that values the same things you do, you have a higher likelihood of being successful at this job, obtaining raises, and getting promoted. 



Become an asset for the right company

Because organizations need to try to attract and retain talented employees who fit with their culture and company values, the topic of work values often comes up in interviews.

When you share the same values as a potential employer, you become more of an asset. But you must know how to explain what those values are and why they matter to 

you if you want to make a good impression and become an asset.

Make better career choices

Your values can guide every decision you make throughout your career to make it easier to make those choices.

How to identify your work values?


1. Make a list of potential work values

Before you choose what your work values should be, you should start by listing out several work values. By doing this, you’ll be less likely to get stuck with blank page syndrome.

Keep reading for a list of work value examples.

2. Give every work value a score from 1 to 10

Now, for all the values you listed, rate them from 1 to 10. One is the most important value that you want to uphold above anything else. A score of 10 means you're completely against this value (or don’t care at all).

More than one value can share the same score, but try not to give out too many scores of one, since it will be more difficult for you to prioritize later.

3. Rank each work value in order of importance

Now list out your work values in order of importance. Values ranked at one are at the top, and values ranked at 10 are at the bottom.

4. Use the work values with a 5 or above to guide your career 

Look at all the work values you listed as a five or higher. Do you feel like they are in line with what’s important to you in your career?

If so, you’ve found your work values. Keep the values with a rating of six or seven in mind as well, but those shouldn’t make or break your opportunities.

1. Accountability

Accountability involves taking responsibility for one’s actions. When you're held accountable in the workplace, you take responsibility for the results of your work. 

But the same principle applies to your peers. In a culture of accountability, everyone helps keep each other accountable. The company should also be held accountable for what falls under its responsibility.

2. Orientation to detail

A detail-oriented person is organized, thorough, and accurate with their work. 

When you value details, you understand that it’s better to take your time to complete a task instead of rushing. This will prevent the need to redo a task later on.

3. Reliability

As a reliable peer, your team members and your higher-ups can rely on you to get work done well and on time. 

You should expect the same from your peers and higher-ups. In a work culture where reliability matters, you don’t have to stay stuck only relying on yourself to get something done well.

4. Positivity

Positivity involves holding a positive attitude, especially in the face of challenges. A workplace with this value prioritizes positive thinking. Ultimately, finding a solution instead of letting negativity bring the team down.

5. Punctuality

Punctuality doesn’t just involve being on time and finishing work on time — it’s all about respecting other people’s time. 

When you value punctuality, you understand that other people rely on you to complete tasks on schedule. You expect others to do the same. 

6. Team spirit

Having team spirit involves working well within a team. But it also prioritizes healthy communication and shared responsibility. The good of the team — and their accomplishments — matter more than the accomplishments of a single person.

7. Honesty

An honest person tells the truth and remains transparent in the workplace. Yet, valuing honesty also means you expect transparency from your team members and higher-ups. This allows you to understand what is happening and why.

8. Autonomy

Autonomy is the freedom to perform tasks without micromanagement. It’s also being able to make your own decisions at your discretion. 

Autonomy usually falls in line with accountability. If you have the autonomy to make decisions, you should also be held accountable for these decisions.

9. Respect

When respect is part of your values, you believe in respecting others. In turn, you expect others to respect you. 

Higher-ups should respect you, and you them. This applies even when you or your employer makes a mistake.

10. Receiving recognition

Receiving recognition happens when your hard work and commitment are recognized by your employer. If acknowledgment for your hard work is important to you, this may be one of your work values.

11. Motivation for self-improvement and learning

This value is about having the drive to continue to grow as an individual and an employee, while also seeking out new learning opportunities.

Seek out workplaces that invest in self-improvement opportunities for their employees.

12. Loyalty

Loyalty is when employees stick with an organization and choose to improve themselves within a company. That is, not going elsewhere to search for new opportunities.

93% of organizations agree that a sense of belonging drives organizational performance, so loyalty does make a difference in the workplace.

13. Professionalism

When you value professionalism, you hold yourself to high standards. You want to be held accountable for your behavior and the work you do. You also thrive in a work environment that expects you and your peers to act professionally.

14. Achievement

When you put importance on completing work that matters to you, you see value in your achievement. This value brings important work to the forefront of your life. Work becomes more than work — it becomes a calling where you can achieve your highest potential.

15. Leisure

For some, the flexibility to enjoy a healthy work-life balance is what matters most in their career.

While this may seem at odds with other values, like achievement and loyalty, it doesn’t have to be.

When companies value work-life balance, you can learn to achieve important things at work while still enjoying your life.

16. Making a difference

This value involves participating in work that can make a positive impact in the world and help others. 

Personal achievements still matter to you. But you work at companies that value making a positive impact over-achieving high performance.

Judging once again for the ZEETV Miss India South Africa Paegent 2021 has been such an honour and pleasure. The preliminary judging got underway and it was fantastic getting to know our lovely contestants.

Such bright, enthusiastic and educated young Indian ladies. With a real interest in uplifting our society. The cosy environment of our venue made it quite a task to hand pick a winner.  

I appreciated their honesty and drive for women empowerment and aiming for ambassadorship on behalf of our people from SA.

THE DURBANITE - REBUILDING A BETTER PLAYGROUND THAN BEFORE

Born and raised in this city, our world changed overnight.  What has been our comfort and support, daily living, many things and people we have taken for granted.  The Durbanites have shown the world and definately given others globally a message.

Our livelihoods became our self respect and who was once enemies on our turf came together for the Greater Good.

Our heros, local guys, friends, dads, just ordinary people transformed to demonstrating a Global message on so many vast levels.  Irrespective of Race/ Colour - we got together.

I have lived all over South Africa, I am proud of my Indian heritage, culture and way of life.

I am 4th generation Indian decent and I love being South African, but most of all, I love being a Durban Girl.  Proud of all the religious organisations and so many people tirelessly and endlessly helping our province to heal and clean up.  The amazing and outstanding effort of the ordinary people putting their lives in danger to save , protect and bring justice to our people.

God has always been shining a light on our people and country for decades, we are the people who have endured so much already.


We must make a “Better Durban than Before” and we will.

Dancing for the great Goddess helps change POTENTIAL energy to KINETIC energy.

Who reached there didn’t grab it by their hands

Who grabbed it didn’t taste it

Who tasted it (mouth) they didn’t keep it

EYES FEET HANDS MOUTH - NO ONE KEPT IT

Then the owner came

When the owner came he hit “him” on his back

Back didn’t do anything but got hurt

Now back is saying I didn’t even do anything and I got hurt

When the back got hurt, tears came out from “his” eyes
